Lorenzo Campagna is the Owner and Practice Principal of Spinal and Sports Care and a highly experienced clinician with more than three decades of involvement in allied healthcare and elite sport. He is dual-qualified as a Sports and Exercise Chiropractor, having completed his chiropractic training at Macquarie University, and as a Physiotherapist, having graduated from the University of Sydney. His clinical approach combines active rehabilitation with targeted, hands-on techniques, including dry needling, therapeutic taping, shockwave therapy, and advanced soft-tissue techniques, all applied within an evidence-based framework.
In addition to his clinical qualifications, Lorenzo holds a Master of High-Performance Sport from the University of Technology Sydney, completed while working within the high-performance department of the Sydney Swans (AFL). He also holds a qualification in Football Medicine through the FIFA Medical framework, further strengthening his expertise in elite athlete care and return-to-play decision-making.
In 2019, Lorenzo was endorsed by the Australasian Institute of Chiropractic Education (AICE) as a titled Fellow in Sports and Exercise Chiropractic, a distinction held by a very small number of chiropractors nationally. This recognition reflects his contribution to clinical excellence, professional leadership, and sports medicine practice.
Lorenzo has been working at Spinal and Sports Care since 1995 and became a partner in 1998. Over this time, he has developed extensive experience in assessing and managing spinal and extremity conditions across all age groups. His clinical work spans elite sporting athletes, developing juniors, weekend warriors, and families seeking to remain active and healthy. His care integrates movement retraining, progressive loading, and functional rehabilitation, alongside modalities such as taping, dry needling, shockwave therapy, and focused soft-tissue work to support pain reduction, tissue recovery, and long-term performance. He has a particular interest and expertise in adolescent musculoskeletal conditions, including Osgood-Schlatter disease and Sever’s disease, and maintains strong affiliations with Sydney’s elite sporting academies across multiple sports, where he provides education, medical coverage, and performance support at both national and international events.
Lorenzo is a certified Sports Medicine Australia (SMA) presenter and regularly teaches Level 1 and Level 2 Sports Trainer courses, re-accreditation programs, and introductory and advanced sports taping. He has completed certification in Team Sports Training through Barça Universitas and continues to apply strength, conditioning, and load-management principles in both rehabilitation and performance settings.
He currently serves as Chair of Membership for the Federation of International Sports Chiropractic (FICS), the global governing body for sports chiropractic, representing practitioners in more than 90 countries. In this role, Lorenzo contributes to international leadership, professional standards, and global collaboration in elite sport and multidisciplinary athlete care. He is also a member of the FICS Corporate and Social Responsibility Board and Membership Services, supporting practitioner development and athlete welfare worldwide.
At a national level, Lorenzo is the Vice-Chair of Sports Medicine Australia (SMA) NSW and previously served for six years as an executive member of Sports Chiropractic Australia (SCA), including four years as NSW Chairman. He also serves on the Australian Chiropractic Association (ACA) Conduct and Ethics Committee. Lorenzo is frequently invited to peer-review journal articles on sports injury, rehabilitation, and performance, particularly in football (soccer), AFL, and netball.
Education remains central to Lorenzo’s professional philosophy. He has delivered educational presentations to sporting organisations, coaches, and athletes for many years, covering injury prevention, effective injury management, and performance optimisation. He previously served on the Macquarie University Advisory Board and has supervised postgraduate and undergraduate students from Macquarie University, Western Sydney University, Australian Catholic University, UTS, and Murdoch University during their clinical placements.
Lorenzo has been involved in elite sport since 1993 across a wide range of disciplines. In football, he has worked with the Western Sydney Wanderers, Central Coast Mariners, Bonnyrigg White Eagles, and Parramatta FC in the NSW Premier League (NPL). He has been associated with Football NSW since 2006 and was part of the medical team supporting the Singapore National Football Team during their Australian tour in 2009.
Since 2006, Lorenzo has also been a travelling member of the medical and performance teams for Indoor Netball NSW and Indoor Netball Australia, attending four Indoor Netball World Cups held in Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa. His broader involvement in elite sport includes national and international competitions in Indoor Cricket NSW, OzTag, Futsal, Ultimate Frisbee, Taekwondo, WMC Kickboxing, Ironman, triathlon, and Surf Life Saving Australia National Championships. He has worked with numerous Commonwealth and Olympic-level athletes across these sports.
As an athlete, Lorenzo competed at a high level in both athletics and football. He represented New South Wales in track and field from 1988 to 1990, the Australian Schoolboys in 1991, and the Australian U17 Joeys from 1989 to 1991. His international football experience included World Cup qualifiers in New Zealand and participation in the 1991 FIFA U17 World Cup in Italy. He later played in the National Youth League (NYL) and the National Soccer League (NSL) for Sydney Olympic during the 1992–93 season.
Lorenzo applies a strong evidence-based approach to injury assessment, rehabilitation, and return-to-sport planning. He believes firmly in a team-based model of care and works closely with sports physicians, orthopaedic and neurosurgeons, sports podiatrists, massage therapists, nutritionists, and strength and conditioning specialists. His strengths lie in integrating clinical reasoning with performance demands, informed by his lived experience as an elite athlete and his ongoing role within multidisciplinary sports medical teams.
In addition to his clinical qualifications, Lorenzo holds a Master of High-Performance Sport from the University of Technology Sydney, completed while working within the high-performance department of the Sydney Swans (AFL).
